The San Diego Destroyers took San Francisco pitcher Alex Laso's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Staples Field. The final score had San Diego getting past the Friars, 4-3. Laso went 5.1 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 9. Arturo Covarrubias, who went 6.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 9 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 9-6. The third-place Destroyers have won 5 straight.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Alex Pedraja? The 30-year old center fielder Pedraja stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put San Diego up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
