Dragons Stick Avispas with 5-3 Loss
|
The 3-RBI night of left fielder Charlie Cole, who is a two-time All-Star, helped the Portland Dragons triumph, 5-3, over the Santiago Avispas. Yandri Vido, who is tied for 2nd in the WC in quality starts with 5, was the winner. He's now 5-2. The loser was Satoru Sugimoto. Charlie Petipas got credit for the save for Portland. It was his 10th of the year.
Cole contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Portland in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-2, Cole took a sinker from Satoru Sugimoto and stroked the home run to right. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Dragons to leap in front, 4-3.
Portland manager Greg Carpenter called it "a darn good win."
Portland leads the Western Conference Jonas Division by 2½ games.
