Loss to Toros Extends San Francisco Losing Streak
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Tucson Toros and San Francisco Friars.
The Tucson Toros had to overcome a big game from San Francisco catcher Lyalya Markosiants to leave Aetna Stadium with a victory. And they did, winning, 8-5. Markosiants went 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Taxi Sabala, the winner, improved to 2-4. He held the Friars to 4 runs on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Raul Alcaraz got credit for the save for Tucson. It was his 3rd of the year.
The Friars had been locked in a 4-4 tie with the Toros going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old third baseman Bonaventure Moser came to the plate. Moser hit a 2-run double on a 3-1 fastball from San Francisco hurler Sal Mejia. It was Moser's 4th double of the year.
"We take it day by day here," said Moser, "and today was a good one for us."
The current losing streak for San Francisco has reached 6 games.
