Friars Win, 5-3, in 10
|
The Friars earned a hard-fought, 5-3 win in 10 innings at Estadio Guillermón Moncada. To do so required withstanding a fine effort from Santiago pitcher Jimmy Biair. Biair went 8.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. Jake Latimer notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. His record now sits at 1-0. The first-place Avispas have dropped 4 straight games.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Bob Buell? The 26-year old right fielder Buell stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put San Francisco up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
In postgame remarks, Buell said: "I'm proud of our guys, of their fight."
