The St. Louis Gaedels picked up a win at Sony Field at Philadelphia, dropping the Philadelphia Spectres, 6-3. Jesus Loyola was the difference-maker. Loyola, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Mike Gonzales picked up the save for St. Louis, his 1st of the year.
St. Louis used a well-timed hit by Tatsuma Matsuura to capture the win. The first baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Gaedels ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Matsuura.
The loss drops Philadelphia to 15-15.
