The Senators faced a stiff challenge from Havana pitcher Benito Cossutta, but persevered to claim a win at Estadio Latinoamericano. The final score was 2-1. Cossutta went 7 innings and allowed no runs. Washington reliever Josh Breaux was the winner. His record is now 3-0. Antonio Ramires took the loss. The loss drops Havana to 11-20.
Washington used the timely hitting of Sung-hyo Kym to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Senators on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We were in it," said Havana manager Kevin Mayerhofer. "We just didn't score enough runs."
