The Santiago Avispas trumped the Brooklyn Browns, 9-6, at Estadio Guillermón Moncada. Santiago third baseman Dustin Siepker was terrific. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Susumu Shibuya, the winner, goes to 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts over 6 innings. With their winning streak at 4, the Avispas have raced to a strong start this season.

Mayumi Watanabe had a big 3-run home run for the Avispas in the bottom of the first inning. With Santiago leading 2-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Jay Barrientos and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Avispas on top, 5-0.

In postgame comments to the Santiago Daily, Siepker said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
