The Phoenix Thunderbirds defeated the Kansas City Athletics, 6-4, in 13 innings. Billy Morf, who led the WC in wins above replacement with 10.2 in 2081, played a big role. Morf went 4 for 7 with a home run, a triple, and a double. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for the Thunderbirds in the win. Zhi-jan Law got credit for the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. Kansas City falls to 7-21.

Morf had a game-changing home run in the top of the 13th. On a full count fastball from Alex Esquibel, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Thunderbirds a 6-4 lead. It was the 7th home run of the year for Morf.

"Billy leaves the last at-bat behind him, whether it was good or bad, and goes up there and competes on every pitch," said Phoenix manager Joe Busch.
