Tundradome was the site of the home opener for the Alaska Kodiaks. The contest featured a prime matchup between Earl Starr of the visiting Denver Glaciers and Alcides Zaldivar of the Kodiaks. The final score was 3-2, the Glaciers getting the win. Earl Starr turned in the best performance. Starr, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 2, walking 1, and allowing 1 run.
Denver used a clutch at-bat from Alexjandria Leija to capture the win. The third baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Glaciers ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"I was trying to do what I do, go out there and compete," said Starr.
