Morf Helps Thunderbirds Beat Vikings, 8-1
|
Thunderbirds left fielder Billy Morf put his stamp on his team's 8-1 win over the Minneapolis Vikings. Morf was 2-2 with a home run, a double, and 3 walks, while scoring 3 and driving in 2 for Phoenix in the contest. Picking up the win was Jay Barrientos. He went 7.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits. The right--hander struck out 6 and walked 1. Minneapolis, with the loss, is still a robust 15-6.
In the bottom of the fifth, Phoenix designated hitter Dave Rivera had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 3rd and one out, Rivera stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 2-1, Phoenix. For the game, he was 2-5 with 2 singles.
"I think we did a good job of looking for pitches we wanted to hit and put good swings on them," said Phoenix skipper Joe Busch.
