Portland Nerve Tested in 6-5 Win
|
The Portland Dragons beat the San Diego Destroyers, 6-5, in 13 innings. Portland pitcher and Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, native Oscar Mercado led the way. Early on, the Dragons, at 14-4, have played an impressive brand of baseball.
The Dragons got a clutch hit from first baseman Xadreque Esperana. In the bottom of the 13th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Dragons.
"We're not exactly playing great right now," said Steve Alstadt, the San Diego manager.
