The Minneapolis Vikings beat the Los Angeles Stars by a score of 15-5. Minneapolis catcher Eric Newland deserved the lion's share of the credit. Newland went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Vikings. Jose Ortiz got the win, improving to 1-1. He held the Stars to 5 runs on 3 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 8 and walking 5. Early on, the Vikings, at 12-5, have excelled.

Omar Ozoa had a big grand slam home run for the Vikings in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Minneapolis trailing 5-3 and the bases loaded, he sized up a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Dave Mills and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Vikings on top, 7-5.

"We came out aggressive," said Vikings manager Ace Cooan. "We came out swinging the bats."
