Sarmiento goes 3-for-3 to Ignite Kings Offense
|
Baltimore beat St. Louis at AT&T Park, eking out a 5-4 win. The triumph was primarily due to catcher Tom Sarmiento. He went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The winner was James L'Hommedieu in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Frank Hubert took the loss. St. Louis, now 2-15, has gotten off to a terrible start.
Had Vance Kitchen not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Kitchen hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Kings.
"If we keep winning the close games," Kitchen said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."
