The Kansas City Athletics picked up a win at Ballpark of Missouri, topping the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 4-3. On the mound for Kansas City was right-hander Al Joly. He played a principal role in the triumph. The Thunderbirds are now 6-11.

Had Chris Horn not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Horn hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Athletics.

"Al showed what he's made of," said Kansas City manager Joe Monagle.
