Toros Stop Thunderbirds, 8-3
|
The Tucson Toros beat the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 8-3, at Aetna Stadium. Tucson shortstop Brian Zeeff led the way. He was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 times. Tucson starter Ryan Lloyd was credited with the win after throwing 92 pitches over 6.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-1. The Toros, with just their 4th win so far in 2085, have yet to catch fire.
Jose Pedroza had a big 2-run home run for the Toros in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Tucson leading 4-3 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a changeup from Les Ralph, who finished 4th in the EC in innings pitched with 208.0 in 2080, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Toros on top, 6-3.
"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said Phoenix manager Joe Busch.
