Martinez Stars in 11-7 Gaedels Win
|
Gaedels left fielder Juan Martinez left his mark on his team's 11-7 win over the Philadelphia Spectres. Martinez was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 3 and driving in 5 for St. Louis in the contest. St. Louis starter Brent Starr was credited with the win after throwing 111 pitches over 5.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-1. The win brings the Gaedels to 4-10, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
Neosbel Benavides, who is rated as the 88th best prospect by BNN, helped out the St. Louis cause in the bottom of the third inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the first baseman drew 2 walks.
"We got the victory," said Martinez. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."
