Phoenix got a strong outing from Jay Barrientos as the Thunderbirds defeated the Tucson Toros, 3-1, at Legednary Park. The win went to Andy Miao in relief, making him now 1-1. Taxi Sabala took the loss for Tucson. The loss drops Tucson to 6-6.

Taiji Taira went 2 for 4 with 2 singles for Phoenix. The former first round draft pick had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Alex Mayorga. It was his 3rd RBI of the season.

"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Thunderbirds manager Joe Busch, "I like our chances."
