St. Louis Mettle Tested in Tight 5-4 Win

Buffalo first baseman Rafael Vasco had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Vasco was 2 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once, even as St. Louis beat the Rangers, 5-4. St. Louis is off to a sluggish start, getting just their 2nd win in 12 games.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when St. Louis third baseman Nate Nisson, facing Earl Tessier, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Gaedels the 5-4 win.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Buffalo manager Alex Beckman.
