The Maine Lobster could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Jim Lawrence into a win. Instead, the Chicago Phantoms prevailed, 6-5. Lawrence threw 5.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Jason Mouland came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-1. Chicago now sports a record of 57-50.

Luis Cortes was the walk-off hero for Chicago. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Phantoms first baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

In comments to the Chicago Daily News, Cortes admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
