Toros Take Down Kodiaks, 7-3
|
Due in large part to third baseman Martyn Gheldere, the Tucson Toros sunk the Alaska Kodiaks, 7-3. Gheldere went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Mike O'Keefe, who finished 4th in the WC in innings pitched with 213.0 in 2079, earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Tucson has a record of 45-62, placing them last in the Western Conference Mike Stump Division.
Had Jose Pedroza not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Pedroza hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Toros.
Gheldere told a local reporter: "My job is to go out and play as hard as I can."
