The inspired effort of Portland shortstop Tony Guerra was not enough to prevent a loss, 8-6, to the Buffalo Rangers. Guerra was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Phil Payne picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 5-0. Ryan Mena, who is tied for 4th in the WC in holds with 14, was tagged with the loss. The first-place Rangers have won 4 consecutive games.

Buffalo used the timely hitting of Merlin Garbie to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Rangers on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Winning is always a team effort," Garbie said after the game.
