Browns Spill Gaedels, 4-3
|
Fans watched the Brooklyn Browns and the St. Louis Gaedels fight to the finish.
Brooklyn beat St. Louis on the strength of starting pitcher Alberto Vasquez's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 4-3. Vasquez got the win, improving to 9-6. He gave up 3 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. He allowed 1 run. Jorge Gamez collected save number 2.
Cole Chermak, who is a two-time Gold Glove Award winner, had a direct impact on the outcome. Chermak contributed a solo home run in the top of the third inning to put Brooklyn up, 4-0.
Chermak called the win a test of his team's "mettle."
The third-place Browns are now 57-49, the Gaedels 55-50.
