Browns Shrug Off Boston, 11-2
|
With left fielder Jimmy Keener leading the charge, the Brooklyn Browns defeated the Boston Greens, 11-2, at Brown Town. Keener, who finished 4th in the EC in wins above replacement with 6.7 in 2081, was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Michel Verde, the winner, is now 1-1. He struck out 8 and walked 4 over 6 innings, while allowing 1 run on 5 hits. The loss lowers the Boston record to 5-5.
The Greens had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Browns going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Jack Bird came to the plate. Bird hit a 2-run double on a 2-2 changeup from Boston hurler Javy Alejo. It was Bird's 3rd double of the year.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Keener, "and then get after it again."
