|
The Alaska Kodiaks downed the Kansas City Athletics, 5-3, at Ballpark of Missouri. The Kodiaks were led by Shigenobu Shimamoto. Shimamoto slugged 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Eddie Izurieta earned his 2nd save, after closing out the game. The last-place Kodiaks now have a win-loss record of 50-55.
Shimamoto contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Alaska in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 1-0, Shimamoto took a sinker from Gerald Tanton and stroked the home run to left-center. His 14th home run of the season allowed the Kodiaks to leap in front, 2-1.
Shimamoto said his team "played with focus and determination."
