Stars Edge Destroyers, 5-4
|
The Los Angeles Stars picked up a win at Stars Ballpark, downing the San Diego Destroyers, 5-4. On the mound for Los Angeles was right-hander Tadeu Carneira, who played a pivotal role in the win. Carneira yielded 3 runs over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 1-1. Jose Bustamante wrapped it up, recording his 1st save.
The Stars got a big at-bat from catcher Whip Lund. For the game, Lund was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Los Angeles a 4-2 lead.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Los Angeles manager Pat Kaers. "It's usually not just one thing."
Now 4-7, the Destroyers have gotten off to a poor start.
