New York got a terrific performance from pitcher Lao Lum, but it wasn't enough to beat the Miami Cyclones. Miami won the Polo Grounds II contest, 2-0. Lum threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Miami reliever Nestor Fajardo picked up the win, upping his record to 8-5. Vaisel Ajete absorbed the loss. Miami is now 47-54.

Miami used the timely hitting of Francisco Duenas to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cyclones on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"We're a talented bunch when we're playing well," said Duenas. "I think we showed that here."
