The home team gave the crowd some walk-off drama.
The New York Titans got a magnificent performance from pitcher Gil Eckenroth, who muffled the Montreal offense en route to a tight, 2-1 Titans win at Polo Grounds II. Reliever Mike Gonzales picked up the win. His record improves to 2-2. Ron Trevathan, who led the WC in ERA with 1.97 in 2074, took the loss.
Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 2079 Hitter of the Year Award winner Zahi Cobo had a real shot to win the game. Montreal pitcher Gaige Kunkle was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Cobo hit a run-scoring single. The Titans had a walk-off triumph.
"Gil had it going," said New York manager Nate Beckman.
The first-place Harfangs have lost 5 straight games.
