Senators Take Tight Tango, 1-0
|
Cincinnati got a terrific performance from pitcher Julio Carpinteyro, but it wasn't enough to beat the Washington Senators. Washington won the The ESPN Zone contest, 1-0. Carpinteyro threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Picking up his 3rd save was fan favorite Julio Mendoza. The defeat makes Cincinnati 6-5.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Danny Mrazek came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Bokkai Nikaido, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Washington on top, 1-0.
"My job is to go out and play as hard as I can for the Senators," said Mrazek.
