Glaciers Score Late to Nip Thunderbirds, 5-4
|
The Denver Glaciers beat the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 5-4, at Mountain Dew Park. Chris Eighmy went 2 for 2 with 2 singles and a walk. He drove in 3 runs. The slugging first baseman was a menace to Phoenix all day. The win was credited to Raul Valido in relief. His record improves to 3-0. James L'Hommedieu took the loss. Jeremy Lanham closed it out for his 8th save.
Yuan Zhu went 1 for 3 with a triple and a walk. He scored 2 times for Denver. The 27-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Sumiki Kono. It was his 35th RBI of the season.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Zhu. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
By defeating Phoenix, the 4th-place Glaciers improved to 49-53.
