Sosa Powers Athletics to 8-2 Win
|
The Kansas City Athletics defeated the Maine Lobster, 8-2, at Ballpark of Missouri. Kansas City left fielder Henry Sosa had a superb performance. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 4. Alex Laso, who went 5 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with no runs on 4 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 6. His record now stands at 6-5. The Lobster, at 51-44, have lost 4 straight games.
With Kansas City leading 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Sosa came up to bat against Maine pitcher Tom Parmenter. Sosa hit a fastball to left for a grand slam home run. His 14th home run of the season put the Athletics on top, 8-0.
"We didn't put up much resistance," said losing manager Matthew McExpos.
