The San Diego Destroyers downed the Havana Metropolitanos, 4-1, at Seaward Stadium. Stellar pitching by Arturo Covarrubias had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who finished 4th in the WC in strikeouts with 185 in 2083, handcuffed his opponent all game. The third-place Destroyers hiked their record to 51-45.

The Destroyers got a big at-bat from right fielder Jason Gonzalez. For the game, Gonzalez went 2-3 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 5th double of the season gave San Diego a 2-0 lead.

"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said Covarrubias. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win."
