Gonzales Leads Metropolitanos to Win
|
Led by Andy Gonzales, the Havana Metropolitanos defeated the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 8-6. Gonzales was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for the Metropolitanos. The loss makes Phoenix 34-60.
Carlos Garza was 1-3 with a walk for Havana. The 25-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring single off Henry Escobedo. It was his 85th hit of the season.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Kevin Mayerhofer said.
