Denver Stopped, 4-1, by Phoenix
|
Pitcher Julio Carpinteyro was rock solid in helping the Phoenix Thunderbirds beat the Denver Glaciers, 4-1. Zhi-jan Law closed the game out for Phoenix, earning his 5th save. The Thunderbirds go to 48-45, putting them third in the Western Conference Najera Division.
Case Lafourcade had a big solo home run for the Thunderbirds in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Phoenix leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a changeup from 26-year old left-handed pitcher Shane Shackelford and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Thunderbirds on top, 2-0.
Carpinteyro called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
