Metropolitanos Rally to Win
|
The Havana Metropolitanos defeated the Houston Aquas, 8-5, at Tesoro Stadium. Homer Hanes, who is tied for 2nd in the EC in extra base hits with 41, was a standout performer for Havana. His 3 hits included 1 single and 2 doubles -- this in addition to the 1 run he scored and 3 he knocked in. Havana pitcher Bobby Alkire got the win. He's now 3-3. Danny Mathews was tagged with the loss. Josh Trejo earned his 25th save in 25 chances.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Mario Murillo? The Havana designated hitter had a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Metropolitanos on top, 6-5. For the game, Murillo had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Murillo. "It sure beats the alternative."
Havana, at 55-35, is 8½ games up in the Eastern Conference Benito Cossutta Division.
