Vikings Beaten by Phantoms, 4-3
|
Minneapolis got a decent performance from pitcher Benjamin Jones, but it wasn't enough to beat the Chicago Phantoms. Chicago won the Foster Field contest, 4-3. Jones threw 6.1 innings allowing 3 runs for the losing team. Tetsukazu Kaneda, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 1.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 0. John Liberty earned the save for Chicago, his 1st of the year.
Yifu Chen drew 1 walk for Chicago. The 24-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring walk off Frank Macias. It was his 3rd walk of the season.
Minneapolis manager Ace Cooan said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The victory makes Chicago 5-5.
