Vikings Turn Back Juggernauts, 5-3
|
Starting pitcher Josh Hawes pitched well enough to help the Minneapolis Vikings beat the Toronto Juggernauts, 5-3. Hawes, now 6-8, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 5, and allowing 2 runs. Zee-loo Kim was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 17 of 18 save opportunities.
Carlos Dorame went 1-3 with a walk for Minneapolis. The 27-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring single off Albin Muscetta. It was his 53rd hit of the season.
"Really good pitchers have that ability to raise their game when they need to," said Minneapolis manager Ace Cooan.
With the win, the Vikings have a record of 53-38.
