San Francisco Friars starter Kelvin Vaquera found his groove in his team's 6-2 win over the San Diego Destroyers. Vaquera yielded 1 run over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 5-8. With the victory, the Friars record stands at 44-46.

Hank Snook had a big 2-run double for the Friars in the bottom of the first inning. With San Francisco leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Juzo Matsumoto, who finished 4th in the WC in ERA with 3.05 in 2080, and swatted a double to center. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Friars ahead, 4-0.

"Kelvin set the tone with his ability to attack the hitters," said San Francisco manager Erich Weatherholt.
