Thunderbirds Make Rangers 5-1 Losers
|
Pitcher Jay Barrientos was rock solid in helping the Phoenix Thunderbirds beat the Buffalo Rangers, 5-1. Barrientos, now 5-7, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 9, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Phoenix is now 31-55, Buffalo 46-39.
Phoenix used the hitting of Vic Sanchez to pick up the win. The designated hitter clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Thunderbirds on top, 3-1. For the game, Sanchez had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Alex Beckman told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
