Athletics Coast to 11-1 Victory
|
The Chicago Phantoms took it on the chin, losing, 11-1, to the Kansas City Athletics. Arturo Covarrubias, who finished 4th in the WC in innings pitched with 202.0 in 2081, pitched a strong game for Kansas City. Covarrubias picked up the win for Kansas City, going 7 innings. He gave up no runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 6-10. The third-place Athletics are 45-39.
Eddie Simon had a big 2-run double for the Athletics in the bottom of the third inning. With Kansas City leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Jake Orthman, who leads the WC in complete games with 2, and swatted a double to center. It was his 26th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Athletics ahead, 3-0.
"Good pitching and timely hitting is a recipe for success," said Simon.
