Gaedels Suffer 3-1 Loss to Senators
|
In a low-scoring game between the Washington Senators and the St. Louis Gaedels, pitcher Hawk Hartshorn was masterful on the mound. The Washington right-hander spearheaded his team's 3-1 win. Washington reliever Ian Huycke was credited with the win. His record goes to 3-2. Carter Commiskey took the loss for St. Louis. Julio Mendoza recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 17 for 18.
The Senators got a big at-bat from center fielder Luisbanis Valido. For the game, Valido went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Washington a 3-0 lead.
Hartshorn called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
The 4th-place Senators have won 4 in a row.
