In Extras, Senators Beat Gaedels
|
Well, that's how to end a game in style.
The inspired effort of St. Louis right fielder Geri Rengifo was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-6, to the Washington Senators. Rengifo went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 runs. The 'W' lifts Washington's record to 32-50.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Washington designated hitter Danny Mrazek, facing Dave Valenzuela, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Senators the 7-6 win.
"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Mrazek. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
