Stars Grind Out 1-0 Win

The Los Angeles Stars scored a tight, 1-0 win versus the Tucson Toros at Stars Ballpark. Los Angeles pitcher Mike Merdinger held his own in the contest. The winner was Merdinger. He threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Miguel Moquete. Los Angeles is now 44-37, while Tucson is 40-41.
The Stars got a big at-bat from catcher Whip Lund. For the game, Lund went 1-3 with a home run. In the bottom of the second, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 9th home run of the season gave Los Angeles a 1-0 lead.
"Mike did a tremendous job," said Los Angeles manager Pat Kaers.
