Stars Need Extra Innings to Top Aquas, 3-1
|
Houston got a terrific performance from pitcher Chris Sayler, but it wasn't enough to beat the Los Angeles Stars. Los Angeles won the Stars Ballpark contest, 3-1. Sayler threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Los Angeles reliever Jose Bustamante was credited with the win. His record goes to 1-0. Hwi-gon Chun took the loss for Houston. Houston falls to 2-7.
Los Angeles got a clutch hit from Alvin Witz. The third baseman launched a 2-run home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a kill shot.
"Took some scratching and clawing," said Witz. "But we got it done."
