Los Angeles Stars starter Roberto Davila was dealing. He helped his team knock off the Phoenix Thunderbirds, 5-2. The winning pitcher was Davila, now 8-5. He tossed 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 6. Raiko Leon notched his 15th save of the season.

Ramão Bizarro dealt the Thunderbirds a blow in the top of the fifth. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Los Angeles leading 1-0, Bizarro, who is tied for 7th in the WC in bases on balls with 45, hit a full count fastball for a 2-run single.

"Thought I threw pretty well and overall I felt good," said Davila.

The second-place Stars now have a record of 42-36.
