The Denver Glaciers knocked off the Portland Dragons, 8-4, in Western Conference action at Portland Park. Denver pitcher and Baltimore, Maryland, native Earl Starr had an outstanding performance. Starr, now 9-5, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 2, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. The third-place Dragons now sit at 38-39.

Denver catcher Alvaro Salazar contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the third. With two down, he hit a fastball to left field for a 2-run single. It was his 43rd hit of the season and put the Glaciers ahead, 4-2.

"Earl did a good job of managing their lineup," said Denver manager Todd Bleess.
