Senators Suffer One-Run Loss at St. Louis
|
In the 7-6 St. Louis win over Washington, the impact of Tatsuma Matsuura was substantial. Matsuura went 3 for 4 with 3 doubles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Frank Hubert snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 1.2 innings. He's now 5-4 on the season. Hector Roybal earned the save, his 5th.
Matsuura contributed in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded, he hit a 2-run double. It was one at-bat among others that helped St. Louis get the win.
Gaedels manager Mak Dolnick wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
After today's action, St. Louis sits at 29-48; Washington slips to 29-48.
