Athletics Claim Late Win
|
Kansas City and Chicago got after it at Foster Field.
The Athletics grabbed a win, 5-3, at Foster Field, overcoming a fine effort from Chicago pitcher R.J. Mendenhall. Mendenhall went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs. Today's win puts Kansas City at 41-35, while Chicago falls to 43-33.
Kansas City used the timely hitting of Asa Hornyak to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Athletics on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Kansas City manager Joe Monagle was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
