Maine Bats Go Silent in 4-0 Loss
|
The Havana Metropolitanos downed the Maine Lobster, 4-0, at Estadio Latinoamericano. Stellar pitching by Bobby Alkire had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who finished 5th in the EC in saves with 19 in 2081, handcuffed his opponent all game. Alkire picked up the win for Havana, going 5.2 innings. He gave up no runs on 2 hits. He now sports a record of 6-4. The save was credited to Andino D'Elia, his 6th.
Havana second baseman Carlos Garza contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a changeup to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 72nd hit of the season and put the Metropolitanos ahead, 2-0.
"When Bobby is on, he can really move the ball around," said Havana manager Kevin Mayerhofer.
The loss makes Maine 38-35.
