Thunderbirds Lose, 3-0, at Stars Ballpark
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Los Angeles Stars and the Phoenix Thunderbirds, pitcher Roberto Davila was the difference between victory and defeat. The Los Angeles right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-0 Stars win. The winner was Davila. He threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Henry Escobedo. The third-place Stars improved to 39-34.
The Stars had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 3-0, Los Angeles, with one out. Phoenix, with runners on 1st and 2nd, was mounting a threat. Angel Rivero dug in at the plate, but on a 2-2 fastball, he struck out.
