The Phoenix Thunderbirds defeated the Los Angeles Stars, 6-5, in part because of catcher Jose Olmos. Olmos was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs for the Thunderbirds. Phoenix reliever Ko Morita picked up the win. Raul Alcaraz took the loss for Los Angeles. Bernd Miller was credited with the save for Phoenix, his 1st of the season.

Olmos had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 1-0 fastball from Raul Alcaraz, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Thunderbirds a 6-5 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Olmos.

"I like to keep things lively in the clubhouse," said Olmos. "Believe me, it's much easier after a win."

The victory makes Phoenix 25-48.
